Aspinall becomes back-to-back champion in Rotterdam

Aspinall becomes back-to-back champion in Rotterdam. He picked up his second nightly win in the 2024 Premier League. “The Asp” Nathan Aspinall beat “Bully Boy” Michael Smith 6-4 in the final. Nathan gained control of the match in the fourth leg, taking out 72, to go 3-1 up. Aspinall then carried on picking up legs and controlling the game. He hit double four, to move one leg away from victory. In the ninth leg, Smith treated the crowd in Rotterdam by reeling in the big fish to keep his hopes alive. However, after a few missed darts at double, Nathan pinned double 8 to win the match and move ahead of Van Gerwen, into third place. See match stats below.

It was an absolute cracker of a semi-final between Nathan Aspinall and the reigning World Champion, Luke Humphries. It was a very frustrating start for Aspinall, who found himself 4-1 down to Humphries. Nathan then battled back, as we’ve seen him do many times before. He took out 56, crucially hitting double 20 with his last dart, with Luke, sitting on 64, ready to take full advantage if Nathan slipped up. The Aspinall went on to win the match 6-4 completing an unbelievable comeback against the world number one. See match stats below.

Michael Van Gerwen got an unbelievable reception as he walked out in front of 16,000 Dutch fans, all dressed in orange. However, Luke Humphries spoiled the party, beating him 6-4. Van Gerwen really got the crowd going in the second leg, checking out 149 to make it a leg a piece. The sixth leg saw Humphries fire back with a ton plus checkout himself, taking out 106 to go 4-2 in front. Luke then hit treble 17 then double 12 to take out 75 and win the match 6-4. As predicted, against the odds, Michael Smith took down Luke littler, beating him 6-3. Littler started the game on fire and checked out 164 in the first leg of the match. However, that was as good as it got for Luke as Smith went on to hit double six to win the game 6-3 and progress into the semi-finals. It was a brilliant performance from Michael! He averaged just shy of 103, beating Littler by three legs, who averaged a ton himself. See match stats below.

Here’s how the table looks after Night 12. With Humphries and Littler both on the same points at the top of the table and Aspinall moving into third, ahead of Van Gerwen.
