World Cup Of Darts

World Cup Of Darts – How it Works

The World Cup Of Darts heads to Frankfurt for this year’s tournament. One of the best and most unique competitions on the PDC circuit takes place on Thursday 27th of June until Sunday 30th of June. Wales will be looking to defend their title after becoming World Champions last year. 40 nations represented by two players each will all be battling it out to become World Champions. This year there are forty teams, therefore the four highest ranked nations will automatically go through to the second round. The top seeds are England, Wales, Netherlands, and Scotland. The other 36 teams will be split into 12 groups of three with only the top spot going through to the round of 16 to join the four top seeds. Each team will play each other to decide who goes through. After that it’s a knockout format starting with the Round of 16 then the Quarter finals, Semi Finals and Final.

World Cup Of Darts – Format

In 2024 there is a new and in my opinion positive change to the format. Instead of having singles and then doubles matches in the event of a tie, this year it will just be doubles matches the whole way through the tournament. I think this will create more excitement and make for better viewing as the pressure will be on the players even more than usual with their teammates on the stage the whole time. The Group stage is best of seven legs. The Knockouts apart from the final are best of fifteen legs. The Final is the best of nineteen legs.

World Cup Of Darts – Predictions

Just like every darts fan I am very excited for this tournament. As I’ve been having a look at the teams there is definitely opportunity for some upsets and also some big names exiting early doors. Let’s start with the flop of the tournament. This one is very hard to predict because all the top four seeds look very strong. However, saying this, there is one nation I can see it being and that’s Scotland. I just think Peter Wright’s form especially in the Premier League wasn’t the best to say the least and he will need to start producing better darts otherwise Scotland could find themselves going home early. There are a few names that stick out when you talk about dark horses of the tournament.

The first of them is the host nation Germany. Now I’m not sure if they are really a dark horse because they will have the crowd behind them and Martin Schindler is in unbelievable form this year. More of a dark horse is Austria. Now this pair made it to the final three years ago and I believe they have the capability to do it again. Mensur Sulijovic especially is a top quality player on his day and can really disrupt opponents with his slow throwing style. Now onto the winner. This might be the boring answer but for me if they work well together there is no looking past England. It would be the first time they’ve won it since 2016 but in my opinion they haven’t been in a better position to do so since then. Luke Humphries is the best player in the tournament at the moment and Michael Smith isn’t too bad himself. Also out of all 40 countries they are the only team to be lucky enough to have two players that were in the Premier League Finals night. There’s actually no other country that has two players that were in the Premier League never mind the Finals night.
