Winmau Blade 6 Review

Here’s our review of the Winmau Blade 6 dartboard, one of the most popular and widely used boards. Used weekly by the pros in the PDC Premier League of Darts. Below is all you need to know about the sixth generation Winmau Blade dartboards, including the three versions that it’s available in. We specifically focus on the playability and the durability of the Winmau Blade 6 Dartboard.

Why Should you buy the Winmau Blade 6?

The Blade 6 is the latest and most developed dartboard in the Blade series. It features Winmau latest sixth generation technology. What makes the Blade 6 dartboard so unique, is the ultra thin 60 degree angled wire. This deflects the darts into the board instead of them bouncing out.

This board also features the latest density control wire, which means for improved dart retention in the treble doubles and bullseye zones. Compared to your average wire dart boards, the Winmau Blade 6 will allow you to reach your maximum potential, by helping you increase your scoring power. The wire is also now 25% thinner than it was on the previous version the blade 5. This will all help to stop your darts hitting the wire and bouncing out.

On the back of the dartboard is a rota-lock system. To put it simply, it makes it easy to fit to any wall by simply adjusting the rota-locks on the back of the board to fit against the wall or door. It’s easy for you to set up and start playing within minutes. Unlike other dartboards, the rota-lock system stops the board moving when you take the darts out or when the darts hit the board.

Durability and game play reaction

The first thing to note is that the Winmau Blade 6 plays really well. Bounce outs are very rare and the construct of the dartboard does a really good job of ensuring your throws stick, no matter how small the target area.

The cleverly designed blade wire works really well to direct the incoming darts into the board, and often if another dart is there then the throw momentum is enough to take the dart into the target.

Over months of using the Winmau Blade 6 Dartboard, we agree that the Blade technology improves game play. But what of the durability of the dartboard? Well the Blade technology does seem to make a difference. The contact edge of the wire is minimised, meaning that as well as bounce out are reduced also is damage to the wire. This definitely prolongs the life of your dartboard.

We have noticed that the area on the wire on the treble twenty does get worn more than your normal wired Dartboards. In our opinion, this is the Balde 6 working as it is designed to, and confirmation that more shots are hitting the bed than being deflected or bounced out. Good rotation of the board should ensure this doesn’t become a problem, but we managed to trash a treble when extensively testing the board without rotation. That said it was our bad, by continuously battering a board without rotation and in our opinion no board would have coped better and most would have feared worse.

So what of the other versions?

The next version is the Blade 6 Dual Core. The difference between this and just the normal Blade 6 is that it has two layers inside the board. The outer core reduces surface resistance and increases point penetration. This stops more darts from bouncing out the board. The inner core increases resistance below the surface. This improves the durability of the board.

and the Triple Core?

The version that the players use in competitions, such as the Premier League of Darts, is the Blade 6 Triple Core. This board has both the inner and outer layer that the Dual Core has, but what makes it different is the carbon fibre reinforced base layer. This layer penetrates the sisal line, creating the best triple core technology and the most durable dartboard out there.

The first version, which I’ve been talking about, is the Blade 6. This basically has a single core inside of it, which helps stop the darts bouncing out of the board, it also increases durability, compared to your average cheap board.

The version that the players use in competitions, such as the Premier League of Darts, is the Blade 6 Triple Core.
