Superb Cross wins in Germany to claim his second ever European Tour event. Rob’s campaign started in the second round. He came up against Maik Kuivenhoven, who he defeated 6 legs to 2. Cross was brilliant in this game, averaging over a ton and in the sixth leg taking out 167. He was already showing signs of going the distance in this tournament. See match stats below.

Then onto the round of 16. Rob Cross came up against Stephen Bunting in what promised to be a cracking match. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The game went all the way to a last leg decider, with neither player really putting a foot wrong. The last leg saw Bunting fire in a 140, to leave himself on 40. However, Cross kept his cool and hit double 18 with his second dart to progress through to the quarter-finals, winning six legs to five. Both players averaged over a ton and it was a thrilling game for the crowd in Kiel. It was Rob winning the bull backstage that ultimately won it for him, as both players held their throw every single time. See match stats below.

Next up for Cross in the quarter-finals was Ritchie Edhouse, who was on a great run to make it this far. Unlike Cross’s opening two games, this one was a very tense and cagey affair. However, Rob still managed to get over the line, winning another last leg decider. Cross, just like he did against Bunting, managed to pull himself together to win the match. He scored 138 to leave himself on 60, then managed to pin double tops with his last dart to take him through to the semi-finals. You could see the relief on his face when it went in, as tops is by no means his favourite double! See match stats below.

Cross was faced with the task of beating the Latvian, Madars Razma, in the semi-finals. Again, Rob made no mistake, and put in a really solid performance to get past Razma. Just like he’s been doing all weekend, he averaged around the 100 mark. In the last leg, Razma had chances at doubles to make the game 6-5 but failed to take them. This then left Cross to hit double four with his first dart to seal the win 7-4 and move through to his tenth European tour final. See match stats below.

Superb Cross wins in Germany
Now onto the Final! It was an all English affair, with Cross coming up against the World Champ, Luke Humphries. It was a tight start to the final with both players exchanging blows. In the seventh leg, Humphries showed his quality by getting rid of 221 in five darts. This put him 4-3 up. Rob had the darts in the next leg but stood absolutely no chance against Luke. Humphries hit a nine darter to break Cross’s throw and make it 5-3. Read more about the nine darter here. However, after that, Rob kept his focus after Luke’s nine darter and pulled himself in front 7-6. Then in the last leg, made sure he was going to be getting his hands on that trophy. He hit three treble 19s when he was sat on 271, to leave himself on 100. After doing that, checking out 100 looked very likely. Just like he’s been doing all weekend, he kept calm, composed himself and hit double ten with his last dart to win 8-6 and become the champion in Kiel.
