Super Mike De Decker – On Sunday, the 28 year old Belgium star, Mike De Decker was crowned World Grand Prix Champion, beating some pretty big names along the way. First up, De Decker came up against Heta, in a race to two sets, double in format. The opening set was very close. Mike managed to nick it by coming from two legs down and finding a beautiful 116 checkout to clinch it. It was Damon Heta who claimed the second set. The Aussy took out 76 to make it all square. The way this game went, it was no surprise that the last set went all the way to a last leg decider. It was Mike De Decker who came out on top, hitting double nine, to win a brilliant match and go through to the next round. See match stats below.

Super Mike De Decker – Last 16
In the Second round, De Decker came up against another tough opponent, “The Flying Scotsman” Gary Anderson, who’d just came off the back of beating Michael Smith. De Decker won the opening set, averaging around a ton, which in the double-in-format, is very impressive. The second set was very close, but just like he did in the first set, De Deker took out a ton plus finish to win the set 3-2. The next set saw another huge finish from De Decker, when he took out 160 to go 2-1 up. However, Anderson did respond by pulling it back to two legs a piece. Mike De Decker managed to keep his cool, yet again, in a deciding leg, to win the set 3-2 and win the match 3-0, taking him through to the Quarter Finals. See match stats below.

Super Mike De Decker – Quarter Final
Next up for De Decker was “The Machine” James Wade. It was a cracking first set, which went all the way to a last leg decider. Yet again, it was Mike De Decker that won it, hitting double tops with his final dart. Just like the first, the second set went all the way to a last leg decider as well, and just like the first set, it was Mike De Decker who won it, brilliantly taking out 122 to make the game 2-0 in sets. The third set went exactly the same as the first two, all the way to a last leg decider and De Decker winning it. A remarkable game with Wade losing 3-0 in sets, however, if the game would have been in legs, he would have only lost 9-6. See match stats below.

Super Mike De Decker – Semi Final
The Semi Final was an all Belgium affair. Mike De Decker against Dimitri Van Den Berg. It was a much longer game than the previous rounds as to win they needed to reach five sets. Dimi started on fire, he won the first set 3-0 which put De Decker behind in sets, which he hadn’t been before. The next set went to a deciding leg and just like he’d been doing all tournament, Mike managed to get over the line to make it one a piece. De Decker then gave Van Den Berg a taste of his own medicine, winning the next set 3-0 to make it 2-1 in sets. In the next set, Mike took out 76 to make it six legs on the bounce and put himself 3-1 up.
The next set produced loads of spectacular moments. The first being Dimitri taking out 350 in six darts. He hit 180 then reeled in the big fish, taking out 170. Not a bad way to respond to your opponent, winning six consecutive legs. The next leg saw Mike De Decker respond with an unbelievable 120 checkout, hitting two bullseyes. Van Den Berg was sat on 46 ready to make it 2-0 in this set. However, Van Den Berg produced some big scores at crucial times to pull the game back to 3-2 in sets. In the next set, De Decker, like he’d been doing all game and all tournament, hit another big checkout, 150 this time, which helped him on his way to go 4-2 up in sets and one away from victory. Mike carried on going about his business and won the game 5-2, pinning double eight to seal the deal. See match stats below.

Super Mike De Decker – The Final
In the Final, De Decker faced the toughest test by far. He came up against the World Champion, World number one and probably the best player since Taylor and Van Gerwen in their prime, Luke Humphries! The first set was fantastic and really got the crowd up for the match. Humphries ended up nicking it after De Decker missed a dart at double, but there were plenty of positives from Mike, as he managed to get the set back to two legs a piece. After some great finishes in set two, there were more missed doubles at the end. This time from Humphries, who missed three doubles, which allowed De Decker to make the game 1-1 in sets. In the third set, Mike De Decker stepped up and showed just why he was meant to be there. He won it 3-0, taking out 56 to go 2-1 up in a race to six sets. Yet again De Decker produced big checkouts. In the fourth set, he took out 95, hitting nineteen then two double nineteens. Then he produced an unbelievable 154 checkout to win the set and make it 3-1.
The fifth set was a lot more nervy, De Decker missed darts to make it 4-1, which allowed Luke to pull it back to 2-2 in this set. However, Mike managed to keep his cool and go 4-1 up in sets, two away from victory. The same happened in the next set, De Decker was 2-0 up, one leg away from winning the set and Humphries managed to pull it back to 2-2, hitting a wonderful 149 and 152 checkout when Mike was sat on two or three dart finishes, both times. Luke went on to win that set and the crowd and everyone watching couldn’t quite believe how he did it, with those two massive checkouts to save his skin. Humphries managed to settle his adrenaline after a mad last set and calmly win this one, to put him one away from De Decker at 4-3. Set eight went to a last leg decider, which saw Humphries bust his score, which let De Decker hit a 180, to put him right back in it. This did not affect Humphries, as he pinned double 16 to level the game at 4-4.
Somehow, Mike managed to control his nerves and took out 80 with his last dart in hand, to make the game 5-4 and put him one away from being crowned the World Grand Prix Champion. Of course, the next set went to another last leg decider. The pressure was immense and you could feel it through your TV screens! I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like to be there! Again, Mike just kept on surprising everyone. He managed to produce a 180 in the last leg to put him on 55 when Luke wasn’t on a finish. Mike De Decker took out 55 to win an astonishing game of darts and become the 2024 World Grand Prix Champion, beating the World Number one and World Champion. See match stats below.
