Smith Guarantees PlayOff Spot
Michael Smith guarantees PlayOff spot by beating Nathan Aspinall 6-3 in Sheffield. The tension at the start off this game was unbearable. Both players knew the importance of this game, with the winner playing in London next week. The game started how we expected, both players trying really hard not to make a mistake and just making sure they held their own throw. The pair of them held their throws and after seven legs, Smith was 4-3 up. This is because he threw first. Then in the eighth leg came the moment that changed the game. Aspinall set himself up beautifully and was left waiting on 32. Up stepped Smith and took out the “champagne finish” 132, hitting two darts in the bullseye and then a double 16. Michael deserved to win the game after that! It broke Nathan’s throw and put him 5-3 and one leg away from victory. Smith kept his cool and pinned double 12 with his second dart to win the game and progress through to the PlayOffs. Smith was in tears when he was being interviewed on the stage after. Just shows how big this tournament is and how much it means to the players. See match stats below.

Magic from Littler
In Littler’s opening game of the night, he came up against Peter “SnakeBite” Wright, in a nothing game really. Littler knew he needed to win to guarantee top spot and Wright was just playing for pride. There was a moment of magic from Luke in the fifth leg of the match. Littler knew that there wasn’t too much riding on the game so wanted to put on a show for the crowd. My word, he did not disappoint! The teenager stepped up to the oche and hit three darts in the double 20 to take out 120 and go 3-2. The crowd went wild, the commentators couldn’t believe it and Peter Wright even choked on his water when he saw it go in. An outrageous moment from Littler! It just shows how much confidence this young man has. See match stats below.

After Smith qualified in his opening game, he could just relax and throw freely. Let me tell you, he did exactly that and went on to beat Luke Littler 6-5, coming back from 4-1 down. In the final he came up against last week’s winner, Luke Humphries. Again both players were through, however, it is an extra £10,000 for the nightly winner, so they still wanted to win. Humphries started the better player and found himself 3-1 up when he took out the “Big Fish”, which means finishing 170 in three darts, going treble twenty, treble twenty, bull. There was a touch of respect from Smith after that, who acknowledged Luke’s brilliance. Smith, like he’s been doing all night, kept his cool and took out 96, to make it three legs a piece. Just like he did against Aspinall, Smith broke throw in the eighth leg to make it 5-3 and then throw for the match. Michael Smith finished on double ten to win in Sheffield and head to the PlayOffs in style. See match stats below.
