Price hits 9 darter and Littler wins in Manchester
Price hits a 9 darter in Manchester, but Littler goes on to win sending himself top of the Darts Premier League.
Gerwyn Price treated the 11,000 people that turned up in Manchester, by hitting the perfect leg against Michael Smith in the semi finals. Price was the last person to hit a nine darter in the Premier League. This was in 2022, when he hit two in one night, in Belfast. It’s been two years since we’ve seen the perfect leg in the Premier League, but it was well worth the wait. It was some let off from the crowd when Gerwyn pinned double 12. Beer flying everywhere, it was some sight! There was a touch of respect from Smith as the pair shared a hand shake and a laugh. I think everyone in that arena, including Michael Smith, was wanting that double 12 to go in. Gerwyn Price then went on to beat Michael Smith 6-3, averaging 102. See match stats below.

The other semi final saw the two local lads battling it out. Nathan Aspinall v Luke Littler. The walk on from Nathan was really the highlight of this game! If you’ve been watching the Premier League this year, you’ll know that Aspinall’s walk on, “Mr Brightside”, is becoming a bit of a competition of which city can sing it the loudest. Manchester did not disappoint as it was spine tingling and the loudest we’ve heard yet. Both Aspinall and Littler joined together, sung it on the stage, and as seen before, the crowd carried on after the music stopped playing. It really was a sight to behold, as 11,000 Mancunians belted out Mr Brightside. In terms of the game, it was a pretty average one. Littler ended up winning 6-4 and both players averaged around the 98 mark. See match stats below.

The third game of the night saw a shock result, as Michael Smith put in a very solid performance to dispatch the World Champion and, at the time, top of the table Luke Humphries, beating him 6-3 and averaging 100. Smith went 3-0 against Humphries, who was playing shockingly, averaging in the low 80s, well below the standard we’ve been seeing from the world number one. The crowd were stunned, especially after Humphries won in Germany on the weekend in such a convincing manner. However, in the fourth leg, Humphries showed why he is world number one, checking out 167, to make it 3-1 when Smith was sitting on 48, ready to make it 4-0. Smith comfortably reeled off the next two legs, which helped him advance to the semi finals. Humphries actually hit 60% of his doubles, but the difference was in the scoring. Smith completely outscored Luke, not giving him many chances at the doubles. Michael then took out 117 to win the match in emphatic style. This win has seen him go up to 15 points, only two off Van Gerwen, who sits in fourth place. See match stats below.

Now onto the final! Luke “The Nuke” Littler took on “The Ice Man” Gerwyn Price. Price should have been full of confidence after hitting the perfect leg against Smith, however Littler won 6-3 without really going into first gear. Price just simply wasn’t good enough, averaging 93 compared to Littler’s 100. Luke got himself into the final straight away and showed Gerwyn that he wasn’t messing about, as he started it off with 6 perfect darts. However, he couldn’t repeat what Price already did in his semi final, as he missed his seventh dart. Littler hit double 20 to go 4-1 up against Price, which made it very hard for the Welshmen to come back from, especially the way he was playing! It seemed like night and day from the semi final, where he hit a 9 darter. Gerwyn missed a dart at the bull to make it 5-4 and break throw. This then left Littler the opportunity to take out 40, which he made no mistake in doing, hitting it with his first dart to make it back to back nightly wins in the Premier League and win in his hometown. See match stats below.

Littler sits top of the League after winning back to back nights, over taking Luke Humphries, going one point ahead of him.
Van Gerwen drops to fourth place after getting knocked out in the quarter finals and failing to pick up points yet again.
Price goes up to 10 points, after getting to the final and closing the gap to 7 points from the play off places. Although Price hits a 9 darter, he had to make do with second place.
He’ll be looking to make a late surge to sneak into the top four.
