Crazy weekend in Budapest – Michael Van Gerwens nine darter
Crazy weekend in Budapest – It was an unbelievably mad weekend of darts in Budapest, as the fans were treated to three nine darters across the weekend. On Sunday it was Michael Van Gerwen who was crowned theΒ Hungarian Darts Trophy champion. In Michael’s opening game, he came up against Martin Lukeman. MVG literally couldn’t have started any better, in the opening leg of the match he fired in a nine dart leg going 180,180 and 141, to complete the perfect leg. The crowd in Budapest were stunned, as this was the second one they’d seen that day. Van Gerwen had an average of 167 after the first leg, unbelievable to see an average that high, even if it was just after the first leg.

Crazy Weekend in Budapest – The Final
After beating Gabriel Clemens, Josh Rock and Ross Smith, Michael Van Gerwen came up against another Dutchman, Gian Van Veen in the final. MVG started with a nice 12 dart leg, taking out 170 to have another brilliant start to a match this weekend. In the fifth leg, Van Veen capitalized on a missed dart, at tops, from Van Gerwen, to pull the game back to 3-2 and break Michael’s throw. Both players continued to battle away and the game was sat at five legs a piece. Van Veen stepped up and kept his cool to pin double eight, this then broke Van Gerwen’s throw and put him 6-5 up in a race to eight. It was MVG keeping his cool in the next leg, as he hit double four with his last dart to break straight back and make the game 6-6.
Both players failed to hold their throws with Van Veen missing a dart at the bullseye for the match. This took the game all the way to a last leg decider. It was a brilliant last leg decider! Van Veen kicked it off with a 180 before a few dodgy visits, without a treble, gave MVG a chance to take out 110, and he did just that. You could see the emotion from Van Gerwen when he took it out as I think he feels, just like alot of us, that he is starting to get back to his best. See match stats below.

Crazy weekend in Budapest – Cor Dekkers nine darter
The first nine darter of the weekend was from Cor Dekker, it couldn’t have come at a more unlikely moment. He was 5-1 down to Bunting and a few legs before had miscounted. Let’s just say, you would have got pretty good odds if you had him to hit a nine in that leg. Nevertheless, Dekker stepped up and hit 180,180 and 141, going for the less traditional route of treble 20, treble 15 and double 18. The crowd went wild when he hit it and so did he as it’s the first nine darter he’s hit!

Crazy weekend in Budapest – Martin Schindler’s nine darter
The third and final nine darter of the weekend came, yet again, against Stephen Bunting. It was Martin Schindler this time who struck perfection, similar to Cor Dekker, he wasn’t happy with the way he was playing beforehand. Then when he hits the nine, he almost throws his hands in the air, as if to say, where has that been the whole match. The crowd couldn’t believe it, as it was the third perfect leg they’d seen at the weekend.Β
