The Players Championship darts takes place in Wigan on 17th September 2024.

The PDC Players Championship Darts Wigan is one of many events are taking place across Europe in 2024.

Each tournament features 128 players made up of PDC Tour Card Holders and Associate Members taken from the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

Prize money will stand at £75,000 per event, with all winnings counting towards the relevant PDC Orders of Merit. Additionally, the PDC broadcasts all events live on PDCTV.

About the tournament

This year will see all 30 Players Championship events played in midweek days. The venues are Wigan, Leicester, Milton Keynes and Hildesheim.

What’s in it for the players?

A significant £750,000 will be added to the prize money on offer in Players Championship events in 2024, providing a major boost for players on the PDC ProTour.

Furthermore, two years ago the prize money for PDC Players Championship Darts events was increased to £100,000. Starting in 2024, there will be a further rise in the total prize money. As a consequence, the Players Championship winner gets £15,000. First round winners are guaranteed £1,000.

Additionally, Players Championships have significantly increased the prize money at all levels. Notably, the runner-up receives £10,000, while semi-finalists get a prize of £5,000.

“We invested over £2 million into prize money in 2022-2023. Increasing Players Championship prize funds by £750,000 this year is further proof of our commitment to all PDC Tour Card Holders,” said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.

“We enjoyed another strong year of growth on the circuit in 2023 with hugely successful tournaments globally. Players Championships remain hugely important for all players and this prize fund recognises that.

“Following such a successful Paddy Power World Darts Championship, this announcement will be a great boost to all players going into the 2024 season.”

The final Players Championship Order of Merit – based on prize money won in the 30 events each year – also sees the top 64 players qualify for the Players Championship Finals at Butlin’s Minehead Resort in November.

Altogether, Gerwyn Price finished first in the 2023 Players Championship Order of Merit, earning £79,250 in prize money. He secured four tournament victories, each worth £12,000.
