The Prince are Champions – On Monday we went to support the Prince of Wales, as they played their last game of the season, away at the Harry Hotspur. The Prince won a crucial match last week, which confirmed promotion into division three. However, this week they arrived at the Harry Hotspur, knowing a win would crown them champions.
The Prince are Champions – The Match
The Prince started strong with a 2-0 win, however, Harry Hotspur responded with a 2-0 win themselves. The third game was a quality matchup between two young, fast paced players. Unfortunately, for the Prince, they lost 2-1. You could feel the tension building in the room, as The Prince were 2-1 down. The table couldn’t have been tighter, just a single point separated the top three before a dart was thrown. Therefore, the Prince of Wales knew they couldn’t afford to drop any points, if they wanted to be champions.
Next up for the Prince was Ben Walker. He stepped up and won his game 2-0, providing a cool head when the Prince needed it the most. The atmosphere started to change in the room, as the Prince kept winning game after game. They won 2-1 and 2-0, to put them one game away from victory, in a best of eight format.
In the seventh game, the Prince took a 1-0 lead and found themselves in a comfortable position. The Prince got to the double first, with plenty of time to hit it. However, hitting the double would have crowned them champions, so the tension in the room was high. Each double they missed, the opponent got a bit closer, and the tension got even higher. Thankfully, the Prince hit double one, which crowned them champions of division four! There was one more game to play, and another fantastic young player stepped up, winning the game 2-0, throwing some great darts.
This sealed a 6-2 win for the Prince, and of course meant they could celebrate winning division four and being promoted to division three! All the players turned up, showcasing some amazing darts and proving that they are thoroughly deserving champions. Up the Prince!
